GNC is always
looking for talented singers!
We invite you to attend a rehearsal, listen to the beautiful music,
observe how we practice our craft, and decide if this is a hobby you
would like to pursue.
On your first visit as a prospective member, you can be voice tested to
determine which voice part best suits your vocal range. When you return
the following week, you will be given audio learning tracks and sheet
music for the repertoire song that will be used for your audition. You
will be assigned a mentor to help you prepare. During the next few
weeks, you will have the opportunity to practice the audition song in a
“fun quartet” setting after rehearsal. This will provide you with the
experience of singing your part against the other three parts prior to
your audition. During the fun quartet practice sessions, your mentor
and the Music Staff will give you feedback that will help you to
succeed.
Prospective members are invited to join the chorus for physical and
vocal warm-ups at each rehearsal. Be sure to arrive early as to not
miss out on this opportunity! You may also try singing the audition
song with the chorus later in the rehearsal so you can get additional
practice as well as experience first-hand what it's like to perform
with our award-winning chorus.
Greater Nassau Chorus and Sweet Adelines International keep a strong
focus on the educational aspect of barbershop harmony. Prior to your
audition, you will receive pointers from our Music Staff and learn from
our Director while watching rehearsal. After you enter the chorus, you
will continue to receive additional training in voice and performance
in group and individual settings. You will also have the opportunity to
attend classes provided by GNC’s Musical Leadership Team that will
educate you on the basics of singing barbershop harmony and other areas
that are unique to GNC.
You will find that it is fun, exciting, and exhilarating to be part of
a team of women all working towards the same musical goals!
We accept new members year-round, and women who are considering
membership are welcome to attend rehearsals at any time. For more
