Peggy Kramer of Floral Park, a member of the award-winning Greater Nassau Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, was recently honored with the Heart of GNC Award. Mrs. Kramer, who has 11 children and 31 grandchildren, brings her knack for maternal caring and nurturance to the chorus as head of the Sunshine Committee. "I like to make people happy," says Mrs. Kramer. "I like talking to them and bringing a cheerful thought to them. You don't think you're doing much, but you see the grateful expressions on peoples' faces, and they thank you." Greater Nassau Chorus Singer Inspired by Molloy College Mrs. Pecoraro's enjoyment of Greater Nassau Chorus continues to be enhanced by the fond memories it conjures of her glee club days at Molloy. As a Molloy College undergrad, Mrs. Pecoraro sang second soprano in the Molloy glee club led by Mr. LaMedica and played piano for a smaller vocal group called the Music Makers. The fond memories Mrs. Pecoraro kept of her Molloy choral experience eventually inspired her to find a new musical outlet. "There are so many things the two groups have in common," she notes. "The discipline, the focus even the friends I made remind me of college. The women in GNC are always there for you." December 2009 Levittown Octogenarian Draws and Sings
This December, the colored pencil artwork of talented octogenarian, Doris Brower, was exhibited at Levittown Public Library. In addition to her enjoying artistic creation, Ms. Brower currently finds a musical outlet singing with the Baldwin-based Greater Nassau Chorus. Although the chorus' 85 members range in age from their 20s to their 80s, Ms. Brower is revered as their oldest member. Ms. Brower no longer performs or competes with the chorus, but she continues to learn music, attend weekly rehearsals, and watch performances. "I consider everyone in the chorus my family, and I just love to sing," she says. "It keeps my mind sharp and keeps me going." "A Gleeful Song" for Greater Nassau Chorus
