Harriette Walters, Master Director Harriette
Walters joined The Greater Nassau Chorus (GNC) singing baritone in 1977. Having
grown up in a musical environment, with minimal formal musical training, her
natural abilities became apparent early in her Sweet Adelines career. Shortly
after joining GNC she was appointed Assistant Director, and quickly emerged as a
musical leader. In 1984 when GNC was in search of a new director, Harriette
became the obvious choice. Since that time, Harriette has not only directed the
chorus musically, but has led GNC toward its vision of excellence. Since Harriette’s directorial debut in 1984, GNC has earned a medal each year in the
Greater New York Region's annual competition. Winning first place at the regional
level earns each region's chorus the privilege of competing at the International level,
which GNC has achieved seven times under Harriette's direction. In October 2005, GNC placed 10th overall at the 59th Annual Sweet
Adelines International Competition in Detroit, Michigan. And, most recently, in October 2007, GNC placed 7th at the 61st Annual International Competition in Calgary, Canada.
