The Baldwin-based Greater Nassau Chorus earned a first place medal at the Sweet Adelines International Greater New York/New Jersey Region Annual Convention and Competition held in Albany, New York on April 12th, 2014.

Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. Each spring, Sweet Adelines choruses from the Greater New York and New Jersey areas compete at the Regional level for the honor of representing their Region in the Sweet Adelines International competition in the Fall of the following year.

This past weekend, Greater Nassau Chorus’  placed first with a record-breaking high score for the Greater New York/New Jersey Region, as well as a record setting high score for mid-size choruses across the entire Sweet Adelines International organization. This win entitles Greater Nassau Chorus to  compete at the International level in Las Vegas in October of 2015. The upcoming Las Vegas competition will mark Greater Nassau’s twelfth time participating at the International level.

Under the expert direction of Master 700 Director Harriette Walters, the women of Greater Nassau Chorus worked tirelessly to hone their vocal production, emotional expression, characterization, and artistry skills, in order to improve upon their Hawaii scores and consistently deliver an “A” level performance. Their hard work certainly paid off in Albany! Greater Nassau’s energetic and engaging rendition of the up-tune medley “I Never Knew/I’m Getting Married” as well as their heartfelt performance of the ballad “All The Way” were crowd pleasers which received standing ovations.

Greater Nassau Chorus is available for performances and can provide between 4 and 60 singers for all types of events. Their music is a combination of a cappella Barbershop style Americana, Broadway tunes, pop hits and inspirational songs. Greater Nassau Chorus is always looking for new members. Their rehearsals are open to the public and take place every Tuesday from 7pm to 10pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Grand Avenue in Baldwin.
